What is the role of a Service Dog?


A dog that has been specially trained to assist a disabled person with certain daily tasks, such as picking up an object from the floor. The service dog has access into all public settings.



             What is the role of (In Home) Companion Dogs?


 

The dogs are given to children that may suffer from anxiety or depression. The dogs give a sense of constant companionship. The dogs are not certified to work in a public setting.

  1. Open and close a door
  2. Turn off/on a light
  3. Assist with dressing and undressing
  4. Carry items in a backpack
  5. Help pick up dropped items
  6. Brace for transfers
  7. Get a telephone

  9. Provide independence and support
  10. Other commands specifically designed for handler
