Foster a dog
We are looking for
families willing to house a service dog in training in their homes!
The dogs are usually between the ages of 6 months to 1.5 years of age,
but sometimes we also use young puppies if a family is willing to keep
the dog for one full year to train.
The families will be required to
attend class once a week with their foster dog and teach the dog basic
obedience commands it will need to later work someone with a disability.
Don't
worry if you do not have extensive dog training experience, PGI will be
there every step of the way to answer your questions.
Since many of our
animals come from rescues it is very important to give them training on
how to behave in a home. Once the dog passes the public access test the
family will then be given permission to take the animal in restaurants,
stores, movie theaters and more to complete the final training process.
The family usually fosters the dog for 3-6 months before it is placed.
Average Time Commitment to Foster
The time commitment we ask for when you become a foster home for a service dog is the basic feeding, care, exercise of the dog and twenty minutes of daily structured training practice. You also must attend a training class once a week.
**Please note that before you can become a foster home you must complete this application and a home visit.
